How to Become a Member
Fraternity and sorority chapters take members in throughout the year. Recruitment and intake is a time for freshman and upperclassmen to investigate the fraternity and sorority community. Getting involved is a great way to explore the myriad of exciting opportunities that abound in fraternities and sororoties and an awesome way to make new friends.

New Member 101
Students who are interested in joining a National Panhellenic Council (NPHC) organization, or have accepted an invitation/bid to join an Interfraternity Council (IFC) or Panhellenic organization are required to attend a mandatory New Member 101 education session. The Office of Campus Life will track student attendance and share this information with chapters. Students who have not attended a session (within the last two years) will not be cleared to participate in Intake/New Member Education.

Panhellenic organizations limit their membership to female students at Mercer University. Students are eligible for membership beginning their first semester of enrollment. These organizations participate in Panhellenic Formal Recruitment, a series of on campus events hosted by each Panhellenic sorority that allows potential and current members to interact and get to know one another before bids are offered. At Mercer, Panhellenic Recruitment occurs at the beginning of the Fall semester. Sometimes, however, there are opportunities to join a Panhellenic sorority in the spring semester if the organizations are able to welcome in new members for that semester. Questions about specific organization requirements should be directed to the organization as each has their own minimum requirements outside of University requirements.
Fall 2026 Recruitment
A formal, fall recruitment will be being on Labor Day 2026, and occur from Spetember 7-11, 2026. Registration for Panhellenic recruitment will open on June 1 and will close on September 5. Register here!

Fall 2026 Recruitment Week : September 14-25
Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority Inc. will host a recruitment week in the Fall open to all Mercer students. Following the recruitment week, a private intake process will occur. New members are welcomed to the community at a new member presentation. Fall 2026 informational sessions will be held prior to recruitment on September 1st and 3rd.

- Info Night 2 is Monday, Sept. 14th. The info night will start at 6:00pm in SEB 110.
- Preference Night is Thursday, Sept. 17th.
- Bid Day is Friday, Sept. 18th.
You must be registered for recruitment (see link above) and attend one info night to go through IFC Recruitment & receive a bid.

NPHC organizations limit their membership to students at Mercer. NPHC organizations host Information and Interest Meetings where they discuss their chapter’s history, philanthropy and requirements to become a member. Students who apply and are accepted for membership would then participate in Membership Intake, the process of educating and initiating new members into an individual chapter.
Each organization selects if and when they will host an interest meeting or intake. These meetings could happen in the fall semester, spring semester or both, based on the needs of the chapter. Most organizations require sophomore status for membership, but some are open to second semester freshmen. Questions about specific organization requirements should be directed to the organization as each has their own minimum requirements outside of University requirements.
Get to Know the Council:
Getting to know the members of organizations can be important when seeking membership into a NPHC organization. A great way to get to know members of all chapters is to attend NPHC events!
