Formal Rush for 2023 will be held in March.
Requirements for Membership Consideration:

  • Have a cumulative and current C+ average
  • Be a full-time student during the present and prior term
  • Must have creditably completed (earned full time hours) for at least one grading period as a full-time student at the institution affiliated with the chapter, immediately preceding submission of application

Mercer University upholds the position of hazing adopted by the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA). 

The Purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of service to all mankind.  Hazing does not represent the values of Alpha kappa Alpha Sorority and will not be tolerated.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 

The Tau Omicron Chapter

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization founded on the campus of Howard University on January 13, 1913, by twenty-two collegiate women. The sorority's purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. The sorority currently has 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, West Africa, Southern African, United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Korea.

 

The Tau Omicron Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on the campus of Mercer University, Cecil B. Day Campus on April 24, 2004, by thirteen collegiate students becoming the 960th chapter established in the sorority. The Tau Omicron Chapter is comprised of students attending the Atlanta, Douglas, and Henry County campuses of Mercer University. Collegiate Membership Eligibility

Any female student currently enrolled at a college or university where there is an active chapter on campus or in the city is eligible to apply for membership, provided that:

  • The college or university where the student is enrolled is accredited by an accrediting agency that is recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation;
  • The student is taking courses leading to her first/initial baccalaureate degree or its equivalent;
  • The student has completed at least 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours;
  • The student is in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale or 1.75 on a 3.0 scale; or equivalent, except where the minimum grade point average required by the college or university is greater, then the minimum grade point average must be used for eligibility; and
  • The student is not a member of any society holding membership in the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. or the Panhellenic Conference, Inc.

 

Any applicant for membership must receive a majority of the votes of members of the chapter to which she has applied. However, the vote of the chapter is subject to final approval of the Regional Director.
